2012 Charities Online Financial Reporting Award

ICAEW Charities Online Financial Reporting Awards 2012 Winner's Seal

For the second year running Aberdeen Strathspey & Reel Society has been named as the winner of the smallest charities category in a national awards scheme which recognises excellence in online reporting by charities.

The awards ceremony was held at Chartered Accountants' Hall, London on Monday 25 June 2012 and one of the Society committee members attended the ceremony to collect the award.

The prestigious annual Charities Online Financial Reporting Awards are run by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales (ICAEW) and are open to all UK based charities.

The awards are designed to encourage charities to publish their annual report and accounts online as well as reward innovative and outstanding reporting.

Charities' annual reports are assessed by a judging panel for compliance with technical and legislative requirements plus ease of availability, clarity, web-friendliness, accessibility and impact.

The prize included a donation to the Society, a certificate, a seal to display on their website and valuable feedback from the judging panel. In reviewing the shortlist of 5 charities in our category the judges said about our annual report

The HTML version allows the accounts to be broken down and provides helpful tips, charts and hyperlinks. We felt that the charity uses the technology to give value to the reader.

and in explaining their selection of winner and runner up for our income category noted

... in the end, based on sheer quality and ingenuity in the online links and interactivity, two contenders shone through ...

Commenting on the win, Society President Karen Gill said

This award is great news. It recognises the significant work, in particular by our Treasurer Ross Fowler, we have put into making our annual report and accounts interesting, informative and accessible. As a small local charity the award helps us stand out and gives all our stakeholders assurance we're producing high quality communications about our traditional Scottish music orchestras.

The winning 2011 annual report is available from our website and more information about the awards is available from www.icaew.com/cofra.
