On Saturday 19th November more than 50 amateur musicians along with guest artists Paul Anderson, Shona Donaldson and Ali Napier, took to the stage at the Tivoli Theatre in Aberdeen to deliver an exciting evening of extraordinary Scottish music.   The event was hosted by Aberdeen Strathspey and Reel Society and despite the torrential rain causing major travel disruption the day before, there were visitors from several other societies around Scotland, including Elgin, Strathbogie, Ythan (Ellon) as well as Oban & Lorne.

The audience in the theatre numbered close to 400 and included a party of 55 from Ukraine who had been invited by the society to experience a truly memorable evening.  In recognition of our special guests the orchestra played a Ukrainian Waltz and then Paul Anderson delivered a soulful rendition of the Ukrainian national anthem on his fiddle. Our guests may not have understood Paul’s  Doric introduction but they recognised the melody, joining in to sing the words of their anthem and standing in salute.
